The Evolution of SAP Business One 10.0’s Web Client
After two and a half years of active development it’s time we revisit SAP Business One 10.0’s Web Client. It launched with more promise than substance back in 2020, when it provided little more than a basic sales quotation to sales invoicing process and functionality.
SAP has been releasing additional functionality with each Feature Pack of 10.0, and with the recent FP2208 release we think the web client has reached sufficient maturity to warrant serious consideration for active use by many users, particularly those in Sales and Purchasing. (Not all of the standard SAP client’s functionality exists in the Web Client as yet – comprehensive detail of functional updates is available inside SAP Business One 10.0 Highlights.)
User Interface
The Web Client is based on SAP Fiori design principles and aims to provide an advanced user experience, with an informative dashboard interface and sophisticated analytic charting capabilities.
Functionality Supported
- Comprehensive Sales functionality – The most recent addition in FP2208 was Return Requests, indicating that Sales capability is now very mature
- Comprehensive Purchasing functionality –Purchase Requests, Goods Return Requests and A/P Reserve Invoices were added in FP2208, again leading us to believe that Purchasing capability is similarly mature
- Finance – Journal Entries and Payments (both Sales and Purchasing) are supported, so some Finance users may have their requirements met
- Logistics & Production – We are now seeing functions such as Stock Counting, Bill of Materials and Issues and Receipt to and from Production being supported, which is an encouraging start
- Approvals – Approvers could use the Web Client since middle 2022 to manage their approval processes
We’ve listed only the most general functions above, but more exist as detailed in SAP Business One 10.0 Highlights.
Implementation
The first step is to upgrade to the latest version of SAP Business One 10.0 that supports the specific functionality you require. During the upgrade we would activate the Web Client for you to test, but we’ll deal with any related matters regarding its testing, rollout and potential extension as a separate project.
It’s important that we know up front exactly what functionality you expect before we commit that this would be available to you within the web client once you upgrade. Thorough testing will be required before you can safely migrate groups of users to exclusive web client use.
The Account Management team is looking forward to assist you in this regard.
