When to migrate to the cloud?

Every day, companies advance on their path toward digital transformation, and the cloud is one of the steps to follow.

If you are already working with SAP and are considering migrating to the cloud, this information is for you.

At Seidor, we are an AWS Consulting Partner, but we must understand the services provided by AWS: It mainly provides computing services in the public cloud such as data storage, backups, database migrations, website and application hosting, etc.

But why migrate to the cloud, if I already have SAP on-premises? If you do not want to renew your servers due to the cost involved, but you need them to be able to continue running SAP due to the lack of infrastructure and you want flexibility in your environments, it is time to migrate to SAP on AWS.

Amazon Web Services is the first public cloud (or on-demand) platform certified by SAP to run SAP workloads. AWS and SAP have collaborated to certify the AWS platform that offers the widest selection and largest memory size in SAP Infrastructure as a Service IAAS for SAP HANA.

With AWS, you can get the infrastructure you need to run a scalable HANA system in less than 1 hour compared to weeks or months to deploy on other infrastructure options, such as on-premises.

Many wonder if AWS offers a solution powerful enough to run a particular mix of SAP applications, the answer is yes, Amazon EC2 X1 instances are designed for large-scale in-memory applications in the cloud, they also feature a high performance, strength, safety, and flexibility.

But to make a decision, you first need to know more about the benefits of the cloud.

Benefits of SAP on AWS

cost savings

You need physical space, cabling, servers, energy, networks, certification, and storage in the facilities. Whereas on AWS you can start with $0.
AWS has continually lowered prices for massive economies of scale; the more you pay, the more you save.
At AWS you pay only for what you use, the infrastructure can expand or contract with demand. You use energy while reducing costs, instead of predicting computer usage before you buy it, with AWS you use what you need when you need it.

Elasticity

It is the ability to easily scale to obtain more or fewer resources by paying only for the resources used. With the elasticity of SAP on AWS, you can:
Deploy new applications quickly
Instantly scale as workload increases.
Easily cancel resources that are no longer needed
Reduce resources without paying for infrastructure

Flexibility

It refers to the ability of SAP on AWS to adapt to customer needs, achieving:
Develop web, mobile and social applications
Support internal business applications
Process large volumes of data
Get high-performance computing with disaster recovery, backup, or archiving business data

Security

AWS has more security built in than many customers in their data centers.
The #1 priority for AWS includes physical security, platform security, and network security.
In the cloud, there is greater visibility of the state of the infrastructure.
Best-of-breed security solutions and certifications are implemented at every layer of the architecture, taking a familiar approach to security while providing an on-demand infrastructure and isolating security from each customer.

Now that you know more about SAP on AWS and what its benefits are, are you ready to migrate to the cloud?
