Seamless payments in SAP Commerce with SAP Open Payment Framework

The digital shopping experience is no longer measured solely by the quality of the catalog or the speed of delivery: the decisive moment happens at the payment gateway. Every market incorporates new methods such as wallets, BNPL, QR, instant transfers, and every missing method increases the abandonment rate. Traditionally, adding a payment service provider (PSP) to SAP Commerce required extensions, deployments, and endless testing cycles. SAP Open Payment Framework (OPF) breaks that paradigm: a cloud service, configurable in low-code mode, that connects the store to any PSP and centralizes management from start to finish.

In 2024, SEIDOR joined along with Stripe the Early Adopter Care program to test OPF, provide feedback, and refine the platform before its official launch. Our main challenge: to demonstrate that a new integration can be completed in a matter of days, not weeks or months.

Lessons from SEIDOR's Early Adopter Experience

  • Low-code: conecta cualquier PSP sin tocar el core de Commerce.
  • Total visibility: a single panel to authorize, capture, refund, and audit.
  • Composable architecture: ready to grow securely with automatic updates.

SAP COMMERCE

1. Why reinvent the payment gateway?

The digital customer fills the cart, chooses their wallet —Apple Pay, Klarna, Bizum— and abandons if the method is not available or the authorization fails. Incorporating a new PSP used to require extensions, deployments, and a time-to-market that arrived late. OPF breaks that cycle: it orchestrates payments in the cloud and links SAP Commerce with any PSP through low-code configuration, keeping the business logic outside the core of the store.

2. What is really Open Payment Framework?

  • Validate end-to-end integration with Stripe: we migrated a traditional connection to OPF in less than 48 hours and processed real payments without issues.
  • Evaluate functional and integration coverage: we tested authorization flows, partial capture, refund, and webhook notifications; we documented findings and suggested API improvements that SAP incorporated before GA (General Availability).
  • Provide user experience feedback: we analyzed the data model, low-code mappings, and the usability of the Workbench, delivering a report of adjustments that optimized the tool and accelerated the learning curve for future clients.

El proyecto demostró que integrar un nuevo método de pago en OPF puede lograrse en solo dos días.

4. Tangible benefits for the business

Standardizing messages simplifies reconciliations and harmonizes accounting between local and global methods. Being SaaS, SAP takes care of PCI-DSS, PSD2, and 3-DS; IT is freed from patches and audits. The composable architecture allows launching, for example, BNPL in LATAM by cloning a template and maintaining an auditable history.

5. Conclusion

OPF transforms the old "plug-in war" into business orchestration: for Commerce it means speed; for Operations, visibility; for Finance, control and compliance. After refining the solution from beta together with Stripe and SAP, SEIDOR is ready to guide brands: from the first proof of concept to the global expansion of their payment methods.

The information architecture and the User Experience

When we read the acronym AI, we all think of the concept that is so popular now among all marketers, Artificial Intelligence. But years ago, when artificial intelligence was not yet developed, these acronyms were associated with the concept of Information Architecture.

Progressive web applications and implementation in Drupal 9

Internet was first built with the purpose of improving communication for the military and scientists during the 1960s. Soon, the Web transformed into a revolutionary phenomenon around the 1990s and has been unstoppable since then. Although the purpose of the web kept changing, one of the purposes that remained constant was convenience.
