In total, it is estimated that the attackers stole information from more than 110 million customers. The attack was made possible due to a vulnerability in Target's point-of-sale (POS) system.

3. Equifax

In 2017, Equifax, one of the largest credit bureaus in the United States, announced it had suffered a cyberattack that compromised the personal and financial information of 147 million people. The stolen data included names, dates of birth, social security numbers, addresses and phone numbers.

4. Sony Pictures

In 2014, Sony Pictures' systems were attacked and confidential information, emails and internal documents were hacked. The hacker group responsible for the attack, identified as "Guardians of Peace", stole information that included plans for future films, as well as personal information from company employees. The attack is believed to have been in retaliation for the film "The Interview", which joked about the North Korean leader.

5. Marriott International

In 2018, Marriott International announced that it had suffered a cyber attack that compromised the personal information of up to 500 million guests of its affiliate, Starwood. The stolen data included names, addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, passport numbers and hotel arrival and departure dates.

6. Coca-Cola

In 2023, Coca-Cola FEMSA (KOF) reported that it suffered a cyberattack whose scope is still being assessed. In addition, the company indicated that it has implemented its cybersecurity response and protection protocols; in addition to working with experts on measures to prevent an adverse impact on its information technology applications.
