What is OKTA? What problems does it solve?

Identity management is an integrated IT system of policies and processes that aims to facilitate, standardise and control the process of managing access to IT systems, applications and websites.

This concept is fundamentally related to IT systems, where the protection of personal information or databases and the control of access to both personal and professional applications is absolutely critical. OKTA has been developed to improve the security of these processes.

The problem of cyber security

Malicious use by hackers or, why not, also by the system users themselves, for financial gain or simply for espionage or sabotage, is unfortunately becoming increasingly common.

This area of IT security is something that all modern companies have had to deal with at some point, either when developing software or when using third-party software that requires identification, authentication and access authorisation.

In addition, recently it has also come to be used to control the physical access of people, such as entering and exiting buildings and general or special facilities, using cards (electronic or magnetic) and biometric devices.

Unfortunately, however, on many occasions companies have not had the necessary resources or, in some cases, sufficient expertise to tackle the problem with professional guarantees.

How does Okta work?

Okta is a cloud-based identity and access management platform that allows companies to centrally control access to their applications and services. Okta's platform provides a single sign-on (SSO) experience, which means that users only need to remember one password to access all the applications and services they use at work.

In addition, Okta offers a wide range of advanced security tools, such as multifactor authentication (MFA), mobile device management (MDM), adaptive login and user behaviour analysis. These tools enable companies to protect their data and systems more effectively and to detect and respond to potential security threats.

Okta's main features include:

  • Single sign-on (SSO) experience: Okta allows users to log in to all its applications and services with a single password.
  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA): Okta supports various multi-factor authentication methods, such as SMS, push notifications, temporary passwords (TOTP) and biometrics.
  • Mobile device management (MDM): Okta allows companies to manage and secure the mobile devices used by their employees to access the company's systems and data.
  • User behaviour analysis: Okta uses behavioural analysis to detect potential security threats based on user behaviour and take measures to mitigate them.
  • Application integration: Okta can integrate with a wide range of third-party applications and services, making it easy to implement and scalable.
  • Granular access control: Okta allows companies to granularly control who has access to which applications and corporate data, and to define personalised access and security policies for different user groups.

Why Okta

Okta offers several advantages to companies looking for a cloud-based identity and access management solution. Some of the main reasons to use Okta include:

  • Improved security: Okta offers a wide range of advanced security tools, such as multi-factor authentication and user behaviour analysis, which help companies protect their data and systems from potential threats.
  • Increased efficiency: Okta allows users to log into all of their applications and services with a single password, increasing efficiency and reducing the need to remember multiple passwords.
